Cast at The First Rehearsal for OLYMPUS www.avriljonesphotography.co.uk Sunday saw a cast of 50 plus battle their way through OLYMPUS - following the twists and turns of the story and hearing the full score for the first time. There are pros and cons in doing a read through - but hard as they are, I think they unite minds in a common cause. Avril Jones was there taking photographs, some of which will be posted up here soon.
Penny Parks set the first Greek dance routine for the children involved in the show and we were joined by a number of enthusiastic Croydon College Students, who made up the cast. Set designer Wiggy Wilson revealed her design for the show (pictured above) adapted to both The Ashcroft Theatre and The Minack Theatre, Cornwall. We have increased our quota of men in the show, but we still need a couple more - do you know someone local to Croydon who would like to be involved? Please Email if you do. GOOD COMPANY is trying to raise some funds for OLYMPUS THE MUSICAL and have set up a page on SPONSUME where you can donate if you like. The Penny Parks Charitable Trust have kindly donated some funds to sponsor our Croydon College Performing Arts Students to go to The Minack Theatre - but more is needed. if you feel you can help sponsor the production please click this link - sponsors receive benefits for their help. Below is the Video Promo for OLYMPUS. We are very pleased to announce that the part of Olympic Athlete DIMITRY RAPHAEL will be played by NEIL O'GORMAN and the part of NESTOR will be taken by JAMES CALDWELL.
We are still looking for some SPARTANS to help make up the ensemble. This is going to be a fantastic community project for Croydon - we have workshop performances at The Questors in Ealing as part of The RSC OPen Stages Initiative and we are playing two great venues - THE ASHCROFT & THE MINACK! Come along for the ride! MEN WE NEED YOU! No need to have great voices or be brilliant dancers - we are looking for "built" men who fancy treading the boards. Colleague Ian Rae has been globe trotting - he took his Olympus camera and this is the result.
The Olympus cast joined Larry Lamb last night in The Whitgift Centre Croydon to help switch on Croydon's Christmas Lights. Two songs from the show - both very well received. A couple of clips below. www.olympusthemusical.co.uk Great to see all the footage on TV of previous Olympic Games and those people who carried the Olympic flame across the country. And to know where the Olympic Flame will be going. Though I see that some people might decry the tradition of carrying the torch across the country that hosts the Olympics, there is something truly symbolic about The Olympic Flame - light, unity, a sense of the eternal - ok - I know everything is so materialistic now - but there is something incredible about many hands carrying a torch across the country. Why do I find that so inspiring? I don't know - maybe because it will pass through the hands of people from different religions, different cultures, different outlooks, different ways - and yet all will be moving the light towards its goal. Surely that is symbolic of a true spirituality - where the the action is the important thing - not the system of belief...
Dimitry Raphael will light the Olympic Flame in the new musical OLYMPUS for 2012, before being struck by lightning and waking up in Ancient Greece, mistaken for the god Hermes, with a task to fulfil! (Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon & Minack Theatre, Cornwall - May 2012) After a fantastic round of auditions I am very pleased to be able to publish a talented cast list for Olympus mixing amateur, semi-professional and professional actors in a community project for Croydon. Produced by GOOD COMPANY, Chris Chambers will be directing the project at the Ashcroft theatre, Croydon and The Minack Theatre, Cornwall in 2012. Based on the story of an Olympic Athlete who is struck by lightning and sent hurtling back through time, Good Company are still looking to cast the male acting lead, Dimitry Raphael (playing age 26 - 35) athletic, charismatic, arrogant, fit. Dimitry Raphael is not a singing role.
