Dimitry Raphael will light the Olympic Flame in the new musical OLYMPUS for 2012, before being struck by lightning and waking up in Ancient Greece, mistaken for the god Hermes, with a task to fulfil! (Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon & Minack Theatre, Cornwall - May 2012)
Great to see all the footage on TV of previous Olympic Games and those people who carried the Olympic flame across the country. And to know where the Olympic Flame will be going. Though I see that some people might decry the tradition of carrying the torch across the country that hosts the Olympics, there is something truly symbolic about The Olympic Flame - light, unity, a sense of the eternal - ok - I know everything is so materialistic now - but there is something incredible about many hands carrying a torch across the country. Why do I find that so inspiring? I don't know - maybe because it will pass through the hands of people from different religions, different cultures, different outlooks, different ways - and yet all will be moving the light towards its goal. Surely that is symbolic of a true spirituality - where the the action is the important thing - not the system of belief...
