Having held auditions for the last two days (for Twelfth Night), we have been overwhelmed by the number of gifted actors and actresses that we have seen. It has made our job very difficult as the choice we have been allowed is beyond our expectations. It also brought home the harsh reality of how difficult it is for an actor to get cast or even seen for an audition. I know that I have had to let some extremely talented individuals slip through the net for this one - but this is no reflection on talent. There is simply a limit to the number of people you can see for a role. Of 80 applications for Viola we saw at least 20 people. All with different and valid interpretations . Of those applicants - one will get the role in this show. I think actors deserve a pat on the back, though I think it is important to take castings with a degree of humour and a touch of fate!
The good news is that all those actors and actresses that applied to audition for us will remain on our books and be considered for future opportunities.
